Background and Aim :The current study aimed to explore the mediating role of difficulty in emotion regulation in the relationship between parents' psychological flexibility and children's clinical disorders.
Research Methods: The present research method was descriptive-correlational and based on structural equation modeling. The statistical population of the research included parents of elementary school children aged 7 to 11 who were enrolled in schools in Tehran city during the academic year 1401-1402. A total of 650 parents were selected for the study using a voluntary sampling method. The data collection tool included the parent acceptance questionnaire (2015), difficulty in emotion regulation (2004), and behavior assessment system for children (2015). Pearson correlation method and structural equation modeling were used for data analysis.
Results: The results of structural equation modeling showed that parents' psychological flexibility is a significant predictor of children's clinical disorders, and this relationship is significantly mediated by difficulty in emotion regulation.
Discussion: The findings of the study showed that low parental psychological flexibility is associated with an increase in clinical disorders in children, and parental difficulties in emotion regulation mediate this relationship. These results highlight the key role of parental psychological processes in explaining children's clinical problems and underscore the importance of considering parents' cognitive-emotional capacities in studies related to children's mental health.
