Objective: The problems in the field of thoughts and behavior of sexually abused adolescents and the mental problems that most of them face in their daily lives, highlight the need for research and increased attention to this field.¬ The purpose of this study The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of emotion-focused and schema therapy on posttraumatic stress disorder, complex trauma, and suicidal ideation in sexually abused adolescents.
Method: In this quasi-experimental study, 60 sexually abused adolescents from Tehran, Tabriz, and Ilam were selected through purposive sampling and randomly assigned to two intervention groups and a control group. The Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, Personality Disorders Interview Form, and Suicide Questionnaire were used to collect data. Schema therapy intervention sessions and emotion-focused therapy sessions were conducted for the experimental groups, and the control group was placed on a waiting list. SPSS version 26 software and analysis of covariance, variance, and independent t-test were used to analyze the research data.
Findings: The results indicated that there was a significant difference between the emotion-focused intervention and schema therapy and the control group in the post-test of the variables of post-traumatic disorder, complex trauma, and suicidal ideation (P≤0.005). The effect size for the variables of post-traumatic disorder, complex trauma, and suicidal ideation in the first and second intervention groups and the control group was 85.1%, 55.3%, and 66.6%, respectively.
Conclusion: The results of the present study showed that first the emotion-focused approach and then schema therapy were effective on post-traumatic disorder, complex trauma, and suicidal ideation in sexually traumatized adolescents, respectively, and it can be used as an effective method.
