Background and Aim: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of play therapy on emotional and behavioral disorders of preschool children in Marand city. Methods: The current research method was a semi-experimental type of pre-test and post-test with a control group. The statistical population of this research includes 653 preschool children of Marand city, of which 44 were selected as the sample size using a targeted method. People were randomly divided into two experimental and control groups. Then, for the children of the experimental group, play therapy training sessions based on the cognitive-behavioral approach were implemented as a group. No training sessions were held for the control group. After these sessions, the social-emotional disorders test was taken from the two experimental and control groups. The number of training sessions was eight. These meetings were held every week on two days for two groups for 45 minutes. The data collection tool was Garnevsky et al.'s 2006 children's cognitive-emotional regulation questionnaire, whose validity was confirmed by experts' opinions and reliability by Cronbach's alpha. Multivariate analysis of covariance test was used to analyze the data. Results: The findings showed that play therapy based on the cognitive-behavioral approach has an effect on children's social-emotional disorders. Play therapy based on the cognitive-behavioral approach has an effect on the organization of homework, children's peer relationships, children's self-regulation, restlessness and anger, discomfort and loneliness, and children's feelings of loneliness. Conclusion: The results of the research show that playing in Mani has a positive effect on reducing children's social-emotional disorders, so it is suggested that school and welfare managers use the presence of clinical psychologists in this area, and psychologists also use play therapy methods to reduce children's social-emotional disorders
