Background and Aim: The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of solution-focused child skills training on anxiety, emotion regulation, and mental health among fifth-grade female students with anxiety symptoms. Given the high prevalence of anxiety in children and its adverse effects on emotion regulation, mental health, and academic performance, identifying effective educational and psychological interventions to reduce emotional difficulties and promote mental health in this population is of particular importance..
Research Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group. The statistical population consisted of all fifth-grade female elementary school students in Qom, Iran, during the 2024–2025 academic year. The sample size was estimated using statistical power analysis in G*Power software, and 30 students were selected through purposive sampling and randomly assigned to either the experimental or control group. The research instruments included the Multidimensional Anxiety Scale for Children (1997), the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (2003), and the General Health Questionnaire (1979). Data were analyzed using multivariate and univariate analyses of covariance (MANCOVA and ANCOVA) in SPSS version 27.
Results: The findings indicated that, compared with the control group, the experimental group demonstrated a significant reduction in anxiety scores and significant improvements in emotion regulation and mental health. Furthermore, the results of the multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) revealed a statistically significant overall effect of the intervention.
Conclusion: Based on the findings, solution-focused child skills training is an effective and practical intervention for improving emotion regulation and promoting mental health among students with anxiety symptoms. These findings support the implementation of solution-focused child skills training as a safe, brief, and effective educational and psychological intervention in schools and child counseling centers to enhance mental health, improve emotion regulation, and prevent the persistence of emotional problems in anxious students.
