Abstract:   (13 Views)
Background and Aim: Due to continuous exposure to social harms, emotional deprivation, and environmental instability, street children are exposed to severe psychological harm, one of the most obvious of which is damage to the structure of their self-concept. The present research aimed to compare the effectiveness of habit reversal techniques and emotion-deprived schema therapy on the self-esteem of street children.
Research Methods: The research design was a semi-experimental pre-test-post-test control group study. The research community consisted of all street children aged 7-11 in Zahedan city in2024, from whom 60 participants were randomly selected using a targeted sampling method and assigned to two intervention groups and one control group. The first intervention group received habit reversal techniques in the form of 8 sessions, and the second intervention group received emotion-deprived schema therapy in the form of 8 weekly 90-minute sessions, while the control group did not receive any intervention. The research tools included the Children's Self-Esteem Questionnaire (CSPQ; Pierce-Harris,1969). The analysis method was analysis of covariance.
Results: The findings indicated a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in the self-esteem variable. The post-test mean of the habit reversal techniques group was higher than the emotion-deprived schema therapy group (F = 82.73).
Discussions Based on the research findings, by identifying and comparing the effectiveness of two different therapeutic approaches, the most effective method for improving self-esteem in street children can be determined, and a step towards improving their psychological-social adjustment can be taken.
