Background and Aim: Borderline personality disorder is associated with features, such as extreme instability in interpersonal relationships, sudden changes in self-image and identity, and extreme emotional fluctuations that can lead to impulsive and sometimes dangerous behaviors. People with this disorder often suffer from chronic feelings of worthlessness and emptiness and may seek temporary relief through self-destructive behaviors, such as self-harm and suicide. This research was conducted with the aim of identifying the causes and factors of borderline personality disorder. Research Methods: The present research is based on a fundamental goal, and the method employed was the meta-analysis. The statistical population studied in this study was 38 articles on the causes and factors of borderline personality disorder in Persian and 27 articles in English from 2014 to 2024. Results: Regarding the causes and factors of borderline personality disorder, the results indicated that emotional components, trauma, attachment style, and self-compassion have been repeated the most in studies. Moreover, individual and social differences in the occurrence and progression of borderline personality disorder and new treatment methods were also investigated. Discussions: During the last few decades, borderline personality disorder has received much attention in general publications and clinical and psychological research writings. The presence of borderline personality disorder can be a threat to both the individual and the healthy society.
