Background and Objectives: Mothers in caring for children with cancer face many challenges, including chronic fatigue, feeling of failure and low endurance; Therefore, they need support. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to determine the effectiveness of supportive psychotherapy on chronic fatigue, sense of failure and resilience in mothers of children with leukemia.
Methods: This research was a semi-experimental method and a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The statistical population of the present study was all mothers with children with leukemia in Tehran province who referred to Tehran Hospital in 2019 and was selected using the purposeful sampling method in the amount of 24 people, 12 people in the experimental group and 12 people in the experimental group was placed in the control group. Fatigue questionnaires of Falman et al., Gilbert and Allen's sense of failure, and Connor and Davidson's resilience were used to collect data. Then, the experimental group received supportive psychotherapy sessions for eight 90-minute sessions once a week, and during this time, the control group went through their normal daily schedule. To analyze the research data, the statistical method of univariate and multivariate covariance was used through SPSS.21 software at a significance level of P<0.01.
Results: The results of the research showed that supportive psychotherapy has an effect on chronic fatigue, sense of failure and resilience of mothers with children with leukemia (P<0.05). In fact, supportive psychotherapy reduces chronic fatigue and feelings of failure and increases their resilience.
Conclusion: According to the findings of the research, it can be said that psychotherapy increases endurance and reduces fatigue and the feeling of failure in cancer patients, and it can be used as an efficient method.
