Abstract: (84 Views)
Background and aim: The present study was conducted to determine the relationship between socio-economic factors and behavioral problems in preschool children in Rumshkan, with the mediating role of family structure.
Research Methods: This is a descriptive-correlational study. The statistical population consisted of all preschool children in kindergartens in Rumshkan city during the 2021-2022 academic year. Based on Morgan's table, a sample of 288 children was selected using the cluster sampling method. Data collection was performed using the Quay and Peterson Behavioral Problems Questionnaire (1996), Olson et al.’s Family Structure (FACES) Questionnaire (1985), and a researcher-made Socio-Economic Status (SES) Scale (2022). Data analysis was carried out using simultaneous regression analysis.
Results: The findings indicated that socio-economic factors explained approximately 25% of the variance in behavioral problems and 33% of the variance in family structure. Consequently, the main research hypothesis regarding the relationship between socio-economic factors, behavioral problems, and family structure was confirmed. Furthermore, family structure explained 46% of the variance in behavioral problems. Thus, the first and second secondary hypotheses were also supported.
Conclusion: The study findings indicate that during the post-COVID era, socio-economic factors influence the increase in behavioral problems among preschool children by weakening family structure as a mediating variable. Data analysis suggests that financial pressures resulting from the crisis exacerbate intra-family tensions and reduce the quality of parent-child relationships, thereby fostering behavioral abnormalities in children. Furthermore, child gender acts as a moderating factor, altering the intensity of this susceptibility under varying family conditions. In conclusion, family structural rigidity in the face of economic shocks emerges as a critical driver of aggressive and withdrawn behaviors in children, which is likely to persist without contextual interventions.
